[MISSISSAUGA] – The Ontario Liberal Party is pleased to announce Charles Sousa will be seeking reelection as the Ontario Liberal candidate for Mississauga--Lakeshore in the 42nd Ontario general election.
"It is an honour to serve the residents of south Mississauga, and I look forward to the opportunity to continue to represent our community. Together, we have accomplished a lot of significant improvements, including increased hospital investments at Trillium Health Partners, more funding for our local schools, and protecting and promoting the development of our waterfront. These are just some of the accomplishments we have made together in recent months," said Sousa.
"As a government, the Ontario Liberal Party has partnered with Mississauga to get the city and region moving with the coming Hurontario LRT, regional express GO train service and other key investments to improve traffic," Sousa added.
Sousa was nominated alongside members of the Mississauga community this evening at the Mississauga--Lakeshore Provincial Liberal Association’s Annual General Meeting.
"Charles has been a dedicated public servant for a decade now, and has fought hard for the needs of Mississauga and of his constituents,” said Hazel McCallion, former mayor of Mississauga. "Charles is a compassionate community leader, and is earnestly fighting for what matters most to Mississauga. His support in increasing funding for our schools, hospitals, parks and neighborhoods is unrivaled. Charles is a great advocate for our community and for all Ontarians."
Sousa was first elected in October 2007 and is currently serving as the Minister of Finance. This spring, Sousa successfully balanced the budget for the first time following the global Great Recession, while still investing in public services, without raising taxes. Previously, Sousa served as the President of Treasury Board, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Minister Responsible for the 2015 Pan & ParaPan American Games, and Minister of Labour. He also served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development and Trade and to the Minister of Government and Consumer Services.
Before being elected to the Ontario Legislature, Sousa worked at RBC Financial Group for more than twenty years in commercial banking and owned a financing company that helped other small business grow. In the community, Sousa fundraises for numerous community charities including the Mississauga Food Bank.
"Through various charitable and community events like the annual Holiday Turkey Drive to support the Mississauga Food Bank and the Compass Group, we’re continually supporting the improvement of our community. Although much has been done to better our neighborhoods, there is still much we can do. As we look toward the future of our city, I look forward to continuing to work together in service of our community,” said Sousa.
